Our salon still doesn't take colour booking deposits — are we in the minority?

we've been talking about taking deposits for colour bookings for literally years and never actually done it. the owner worries it'll put people off. i think we're one of the few salons left who still don't require one but i'm not the one making that call. is anyone else in this situation and how did the conversation with the owner go when you eventually changed the policy?
