Freemium booking tools — the features you actually need are always in the paid tier

the freemium model most of these tools use is fine until you realise every feature you actually care about is locked behind the paid tier. i understand the business logic but it doesn't make it less frustrating as a user. what's a reasonable monthly spend for a small business on booking software — and at what point does it stop being worth it?
