Feast or famine booking patterns — how do you stabilise your income?

the inconsistency of income is what gets me more than anything. one week i'm booked out three weeks ahead, the next i've got gaps everywhere. really hard to plan anything financially when it swings that much. does anyone have a strategy for smoothing this out — promotions, retainers, subscription models — that actually works for a one-person nail setup?
